Madison, WI – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed its shared revenue package, which will provide a historic investment in local governments through a combination of new aid and shared revenue. This increase in local funding is geared towards providing for core services such as law enforcement, fire, EMS, public works and transportation.

“Today was about supporting and prioritizing all the towns, villages and cities that make-up the state of Wisconsin. It is our local leaders who know best how to serve the everyday needs of Wisconsinites and this legislation ensures they are equipped to do so,” said Rep. Steffen.

Beyond directing funding towards law enforcement, emergency services and public works, the legislation also adds funding to incentivize communities to develop efficiencies and cost savings opportunities.

“We know that public works and public safety are major expenses for our local communities. This legislation rightly prioritizes these functions to ensure that local governments are able to keep up with the growing costs of these core services. This bill puts the everyday needs of Wisconsinites first,” said Rep. Steffen.

The bill will now move on to the Senate for consideration.
