MADISON – Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) released the following statement in response to a proposed bill from legislative Republicans that would create certain exceptions under Wisconsin’s existing abortion ban.
“The bill introduced by Republicans today is nothing more than political theater. Governor Evers has made clear that he will not sign a bill that stops short of restoring the rights we had before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Abortion is health care. And decisions about when and if to terminate a pregnancy should be made by women, their families, and their physicians without interference by politicians. To restore our freedom to make our own reproductive health decisions, we must not stop short of full repeal of Wisconsin’s 1849-era criminal abortion ban.”
Rep. Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
