MADISON – Yesterday, Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee left out of their state budget proposal funds that would have allowed the University of Wisconsin – Madison to build a much needed new engineering building. The project would have allowed the program to expand its number of graduates by several hundred each year, and was the university’s top priority on its list of building projects. Rep. Lisa Subeck released the following statement in response:

“The College of Engineering at UW-Madison provides students with a world class staff in its professors and administrators, but they can’t meet the demands of the 21st century if they don’t have the space or resources to succeed.

We are already falling behind other states in innovation and development and that will only get worse if we cannot attract talented engineering students to build for the future. We could be developing that talent right here in Madison, but Republicans are once again putting politics over what’s best for our state and our students.”

Rep. Subeck has represented the 78th Assembly District since 2015 and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
