MADISON – Workers at CUNA Mutual Group began an unfair labor practice strike today, with picket lines taking shape outside the company’s offices on Mineral Point Road in Madison early in the morning. Representative Subeck released the following statement in support of the striking workers:

“In this community, we believe that workers should be treated with dignity and respect, and we stand together when our friends and neighbors are treated poorly. Outsourcing jobs, firing employees for union activity, and walking away from the bargaining table are all good ways to build a bad reputation here.

I stand wholeheartedly in solidarity with these workers and their families, knowing that it never had to come to this. For more than a year, they have been trying to reach a mutually beneficial agreement with management that would allow the company and its employees to thrive together.

Rather than negotiating in good faith, the company has engaged in unfair tactics and stalled negotiations at every turn, leaving their employees to work without a contract for more than 400 days. It is time for CUNA Mutual Group to come back to the table and negotiate in good faith with their workers.”
