Madison—Rep. Summerfield (R-Bloomer) issued the following statement following the passage of his bill, Assembly Bill 268, as part of the next-generation housing package during the Assembly floor session today:

“I’m very excited to see the Assembly pass this incredibly important package of housing bills, including Assembly Bill 268,” Rep. Summerfield said.

“Wisconsin has a significant housing shortage that is making it difficult to attract and retain individuals and families in our state. I know this has been a struggle in my district and the Chippewa Valley,” Rep. Summerfield said. “This bipartisan and creative package of bills gives us the tools to make a real difference in addressing the housing shortage.”

The housing package passed by the Assembly today included seven bills. Assembly Bill 268, authored by Rep. Summerfield, provides financing for the conversion of vacant commercial buildings into housing. The other bills in the package provide financing for rehabilitating and upgrading housing, increase the low-income housing tax credit, and create other reforms that will help expand next-generation housing.

“I am looking forward to seeing the impact these bills make should they become law,” Rep. Summerfield added.
