Governor Evers should work with Legislative Republicans

Madison – Rep. Rob Summerfield (R-Bloomer) issued the following statement after Governor Evers’ State of the State Address given to the joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature Tuesday night:

“It’s true that the state is in its best fiscal position in history, as Governor Evers said. However, it was thanks to prudent budgeting by Legislative Republicans last session who rejected Governor Evers’ bloated budget proposal. Not only do we have the largest surplus in state history, but we also cut taxes for hardworking Wisconsinites and invested in priorities for our state. I look forward to building on that success this legislative session with my colleagues.

“Governor Evers spoke about the need to bolster the middle class and reduce barriers to work. I welcome him to work with the Legislature to accomplish this goal. Instead of expanding the size of government, the governor should work with the other branch of government on reducing taxes, eliminating regulations, protecting parental rights, and solving the ridiculous licensing delays from his Department of Safety and Professional Services.

“I’m looking forward to this new legislative session, and I hope that Governor Evers will work with the Legislature. There’s a lot of work to be done, and I know the people of the 67th Assembly District and this state are counting on us.”
