Madison – Rep. Rob Summerfield (R-Bloomer) issued the following statement after voting to pass the state’s biennial budget tonight on the Assembly floor:

“I am proud to have voted for this biennial budget,” said Rep. Summerfield. “This budget is responsible, accomplishes our state’s priorities, and invests in the future of the Chippewa Valley and state of Wisconsin.”

The budget will fund the shared revenue plan signed into law earlier this month and will increase K-12 education funding by $1 billion. Notably, the budget provides for critical projects in our area, like the UW-Eau Claire science building and UW-Stout Heritage Hall projects, which will ensure that western Wisconsin remains competitive for years to come.

Several budget requests advocated for by Rep. Summerfield were included in the budget passed tonight, including funding for the WisCaregiver Careers program and increased grants for emergency medical services to veterans homes. These provisions will provide resources for certified nursing assistant (CNA) training to help alleviate our healthcare workforce shortage and ensure that our veterans continue to receive necessary care.

“This budget invests in our future and makes sure that Wisconsin and the Chippewa Valley are ready for tomorrow’s challenges, all while cutting Wisconsin’s tax burden,” Rep. Summerfield added. “Today is a great day for the state of Wisconsin.”
