Madison, WI – Representative Rob Swearingen (R – Rhinelander) released the following statement in response to yesterday’s State of the State Address:

“Last night, the Governor took credit for the state of our state that was only made possible due to a decade of responsible conservative policy. Then, in the same breath, he proposed to expand our state spending far beyond our means.

“Wisconsinites have the lowest tax burden in history due to budgetary choices made by Republicans in the past four years. Rather than collect more money from Wisconsinites to grow our government, our top priority is to make Wisconsin a more attractive place to live, stay, and raise a family.

“Instead of focusing on the real issues that affect hardworking Wisconsnites, Governor Evers would rather parade around celebrating on false pretenses. Nearly two-thirds of kids are not meeting educational standards in Wisconsin schools, over 100,000 Wisconsinites are currently unemployed, and violent crime rateis at a 35 year high.

“We’ve made great strides in our state but we have a long way to go. I look forward to addressing these issues with my colleagues this session as we continue to make Wisconsin a better place.”
