GREEN BAY – This morning, Governor Evers instructed the DNR to submit a 13.10 Joint Finance Committee request for the $125 million set aside in the 25-27 Biennial Budget for PFAS contamination treatment and remediation. No action has been taken by the Republican-majority state legislature to make use of these funds since the budget’s passage in July 2023.

Representative Shelton (D – Green Bay) released the following statement:

“The urgency to address PFAS is not just a current concern; it should have been addressed when we first became aware of these forever chemicals in our household water supplies, lakes, rivers, watersheds, and even Lake Michigan. This critical issue is impacting our health, our children’s health, and the health of future generations. The ongoing indifference of Legislative Republicans to support the health of our shared resources shows their reluctance to uphold our Wisconsin values. The DNR’s work with the funding set aside in the state budget will allow our local communities to take immediate action not only in PFAS remediation but also in the prevention of future contamination.”

Representative Snodgrass (D – Appleton) added:

“Every Wisconsinite deserves access to safe, clean drinking water. Today’s announcement from Governor Evers reaffirms Democrats’ commitment to ensuring all communities have reliable, safe water sources. It is far pastime that my colleagues across the aisle join us in taking meaningful action to address PFAS this legislative session. Communities across our state are calling on the legislature to act – the time is now to put these already appropriated dollars to work and start addressing this crisis.”
