MADISON – Governor Tony Evers announced his 2023-2025 Biennial Budget. In his budget address, the Governor unveiled his priorities to create a Wisconsin that invests in middle class and working families, strengthens our public schools, and supports local governments’ safety. The budget tackles the most pressing challenges the state is facing from mental health, affordable housing, and access to child care and public safety. The Representatives released the following reactions to the Governor’s address.
Representative Lee Snodgrass (D-57, Appleton):
“The budget address is where the people of Wisconsin learn who cares about them and the issues they are facing. Tonight the Governor’s Budget Address showed he is a champion of middle and working class families and is making a historic investment in making sure day-to-day lives are easier and communities are safer. The Governor’s budget items will invest in a middle class tax cut, provide our public schools with the money directly for the classroom to increase literacy and bolster mental health, and provide a pathway to the shared revenue local governments across the state have been clamoring for,” Representative Snodgrass remarked. “I’m happy the Governor’s budget shows an understanding of where and how Wisconsinites have struggled with meaningful investments going directly to improve communities and people’s lives.”
Representative Kristina Shelton (D-90, Green Bay):
“Governor Evers’ budget provides vital funding for our public education system. By meeting the needs of students, families, and teachers, we ensure our public schools remain the foundation for communities and civic engagement across the state,” Representative Shelton said. “The $2.6 billion is a historic investment in education, providing critical investments in special education, mental health, and literacy. I am ecstatic about the inclusion of the Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids program which will fully fund school breakfasts and lunches for all Wisconsin students. With our historic surplus, Governor Evers’ budget wisely puts education at the forefront of our priorities.”
