MADISON – Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources is launching the Trails Network website on June 5. In 2022, the bipartisan, bicameral Legislative Trails Caucus requested an update to the state’s Trails Network Plan citing that the plan was last updated in 2003.  The Trails Network Plan has been a valuable resource over the years for the Department of Natural Resources to successfully preserve, manage, and expand the Wisconsin outdoor trail systems that benefit residents and visitors alike. The introduction of the website is the first step for gathering feedback to update the state’s Trails Network Plan and plan for the future.

The Trails Network website will show the progress that’s been made in creating more usable trails in the last two decades, as well as provide an avenue for public input on current trail usage and recommendations for the development of future trails. The site will be live on June 5, 2023 and can be accessed on mobile devices and online for members of the public to provide input.

The co-chairs of the Legislative trails Caucus released the following statements:

Representative Snodgrass (D-57, Appleton):

“In the past few years we have seen an explosion of usage and interest in Wisconsin’s many trails. This new site provides an easy way to gather community input and information on trail usage in communities throughout Wisconsin. I am excited that the WI Department of Natural Resources recognizes that the users of our many trails are the best source for helping inform and guide future trail development in Wisconsin.”

Representative Kurtz (R-50, Wonewoc):

“Wisconsin is home to a great system of trails. It’s no surprise that public use has increased dramatically. I’m pleased the WI Department of Natural Resources has created a convenient way for the community to stay up-to-date and provide feedback on the effort to update the state’s Trails Network Plan.”
