MADISON, Wis. – The SEIU Wisconsin State Council announced today the endorsement of Judge Janet Protasiewicz for Wisconsin Supreme Court and of four candidates in local races in Tuesday’s primary.

State Council President Brenda Frary made the following statement:

“Wisconsin needs fairness for voters and workers and the Court’s rightward tilt for the last 15 years has prevented that.  We believe that all Wisconsinites, regardless of their ZIP code, occupation or race deserve a state that protects their freedoms at work, to make their own healthcare decisions, to have safe air and water and perhaps most importantly to be voters. Judge Janet shares a commitment to these key issues and our members have chosen to back her enthusiastically.

“In addition to the race for Supreme Court, the SEIU Wisconsin State Council endorsed the following local champions for their support of workers and voting rights even as right-wing disinformation efforts have threatened basic freedoms at the local level.

Tom Nelson for Outagamie County Executive

Satya Rhodes-Conway for Madison Mayor

Eric Genrich for Green Bay Mayor

Cory Mason for Racine Mayor

“Wisconsin cities and counties are the front lines for voters and workers. All four of these officeholders have served their communities well. They lead the largest and most diverse population centers in our state outside of Milwaukee.  All of these municipalities are targets of voter suppression efforts bolstered by operatives peddling big lie conspiracy theories. It takes courage to push back against such efforts. We commend these leaders in their fight to ensure voter freedom for all Wisconsinites.”

The SEIU Wisconsin State Council coordinates politics for the state’s SEIU locals, SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin, SEIU Local 152, and SEIU Local 1. SEIU is the nation’s fastest growing union uniting 2 million workers in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. SEIU’s membership is among the most diverse in the labor movement, bringing together public sector, property services and health care workers.
