MADISON – Today, Governor Tony Evers vetoed AB 465, which would prohibit gender transition medical intervention for individuals under 18 years of age. State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“Every day I am glad that Governor Evers has the power to protect the most vulnerable populations in our state. Like the Governor, trans youth should be protected, cared for in the matter they themselves deem appropriate, and supported so that they may grow into their true selves.

“From the introduction of this bill, the Governor has said that he would veto AB 465, yet Republicans continued their hateful and harmful rhetoric that trans kids should not receive life-saving medical care. Gender-affirming care is health care – politicians do not belong in the medical spaces where important care decisions are made.

“I will continue to fight alongside the Governor and my Democratic colleagues to ensure that all Wisconsinites are given the same rights and can be their authentic selves. Trans youth deserve to be protected and loved.”
