MADISON – Today, the Senate Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections and Consumer Protection will hold a public hearing on Senate Bill 301, the Republicans’ shared revenue proposal. Senator Agard released the following statement prior to the committee’s meeting:

“Democrats and Republicans alike agree that we must increase state aid to local communities – our local governments have been starved for years. I am hopeful that the State Senate will deliberately debate this legislation and amend as needed to ensure that the needs of our communities are adequately fulfilled without partisan poison pills attached. Wisconsin’s local governments deserve thoughtful, pragmatic, long term solutions not political games.

“My conversations with Senate Majority Leader LeMahieu have been productive and we both recognize the need for a sustainable solution. While Speaker Vos may have drawn a line in the sand, my caucus certainly hasn’t and we will continue to negotiate in good faith for the betterment of our local communities and our state.”
