Madison… Senator Joan Ballweg’s (R-Markesan) first bill of the 2023-2024 legislative session was signed into law today.
2023 Wisconsin Act 7 was signed by Governor Evers and allows the Department of Tourism to update their practices by repealing out-of-date statutes. Senator Ballweg authored this bill which was supported by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and organizations in the tourism industry.
The changes made in 2023 Wisconsin Act 7 include eliminating unnecessary red tape and clarifies reporting duties for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. This bill allows the Department to submit its annual report to the appropriate standing committee in each house of the legislature. Act 7 makes other changes to state law including the elimination of the requirement for the Department of Tourism to distribute cheese at tourist information centers, which are no longer run by the state.
“I am delighted that Governor Evers signed this tourism bill,” stated Ballweg. “I look forward to continuing to work on legislation that benefits industries like tourism that are so important to the economic health in Wisconsin.”
