MADISON, WIS.  – On May 24, 2023, the APRN Modernization Act (Senate Bill 145) was given a public hearing in the Senate Committee on Health.

“Yesterday was the first step towards more affordable and accessible health care for Wisconsinites,” said Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara.

Allowing nurses to perform at the fullest extent of their scope was included in both the 2020 Emergency Order and the Governor’s proposed 2023-2025 budget. In the 2021-2023 legislative session, Governor Evers vetoed the APRN Modernization Act. Since then, negotiations have continued on the current version of the bill.

“This bill, as enacted in 26 other states throughout our country, is proven to reduce costs in health care, provide a higher quality of service and increase the accessibility of health care, particularly, in underserved communities,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara.
