This is State Senator Mary Felzkowski, here to share some great news for communities and counties, large and small, throughout Wisconsin.
Some of the most important resources that local governments provide are police, fire, EMS, and roads. While these services are vital for the health and safety of our citizens, it has become more and more difficult to provide these services on a shared revenue-based budget that has been frozen for decades. Most of our municipalities and counties have done a great job finding efficiencies while working with a lean budget, but now, after trimming back enough of the fat, it’s time for the state to change how it financially supports our local governments.
With the passage and signing of a massive Shared Revenue package, we have now revamped the way we fund local governments, tying increased funding for municipalities and counties to the State’s sales tax – so our communities will benefit directly from Wisconsin’s economic success. This means more funding for police, more funding for fire departments, more funding for EMS, and more funding for roads – and we did it all without raising your taxes!
I’m proud to have authored this historic legislation, and I look for forward to seeing how our communities use this much-needed funding.
