Madison, WI – Today, Chairman Robert Van Zile of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community delivered the State of the Tribes Address. Sen. Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk) was pleased to be in attendance and hear the Chairman’s speech:
“I believe the Presentation of the Colors helped to set the tone for today, as the citizens of this state and this country, regardless of affiliation, are united under the American flag. Chairman Robert Van Zile discussed the trials that affect our state as a whole, from a shortage of healthcare workers, to PFAS contamination, to a workforce shortage, and everything in-between. These issues are experienced both on and off reservation, and through collaboration, we can find solutions to these troubles that plague our state. We are all in this together.”
“It has been an honor over these last few years to represent the 12th Senate District, which is home to five of the eleven tribes, including the Sokaogon Chippewa Community. I have had the opportunity to meet with numerous tribal leaders during this time, both in Madison, as well as on tribal reservations, and I am always impressed by the spirit of determination that drives these men and women to strive for a better tomorrow for their people. Regardless of whether you are a tribal member or not, we are all citizens of this beautiful state, and we all call Wisconsin our home. I look forward to continuing the friendly relationships that have been built between the tribes and the State, made especially possible by the tribal leaders who have come to the table to work with us for a brighter future for all.”
