MADISON – Today, State Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) stood alongside Governor Tony Evers and legislative Democrats to continue the call to restore reproductive freedom in Wisconsin. Together, Wisconsin Democrats announced a joint resolution to put an advisory referendum on the ballot this April on whether Wisconsin should overturn the 1800s-era criminal abortion ban and restore the protections under Roe v. Wade.

“We believe every single Wisconsinite should have the right to consult their family, their faith, and their doctor to make a reproductive healthcare decision that is right for them. There is no place for partisan politicians in that process.

“We know Wisconsinites overwhelmingly support Roe and safe, legal access to abortion. My Republican colleagues, however, continue to argue that it isn’t what the people want – so let’s put it to the people themselves. Under this proposal, the voters of Wisconsin can use the ballot box to once and for all declare that abortion is healthcare and we need to restore reproductive rights in Wisconsin.

“Governor Evers, my colleagues and I will never stop fighting to uphold the will of the people and to make sure every Wisconsinite has the right to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions without needing to get permission from politicians.”
