Madison – Today, Governor Evers signed into law Senate Bill 330, which provides more than $1 billion in spendable revenue for K-12 education, including a $325 per pupil increase in each fiscal year on revenue limits, as well as a per-pupil aid increase for choice and independent charter schools. Other increases include investments to improve reading and literacy outcomes and a significant increase in reimbursement for special education. Senator Knodl issued the following statement:
“Today is a momentous day for education in Wisconsin. This historic legislation will ensure a sufficient level of funding to not only sustain the school choice program, but potentially expand it. Giving parents more options for their children’s education and the ability to choose what works best for them. Most importantly, the bill increases payments to charter schools, private choice schools, and the special needs scholarship program so all students receive adequate state support for their education, regardless of where they go to school.
“Not only does this increase money for choice schools, it also raises the revenue ceiling for public schools. Overall, enacting this bill helps close the gap between public and choice school funding, which creates a better education environment throughout the whole state. I want to thank Governor Evers for approving this historic increase in school choice funding.”
