Madison – This morning, Senator Dan Knodl (R-Germantown) and State Representative Barbara Dittrich (R-Oconomowoc) introduced the Save Women’s Sports Act to protect the fairness and safety of women’s athletics. Senator Knodl issued the following statement:

“This legislation will ensure that female athletes continue to have equal access to athletic opportunities and safe competition under the spirit of Title IX. As the father of two daughters and former student athletes, I am committed to upholding a level playing field where female athletes can thrive, compete, and excel.”

The bills would preserve female and male categories for athletics at the K-12 and collegiate level, open to all persons based on their biological sex listed on their birth certificate, along with the creation of an optional co-ed category which would be open to all athletes.

According to last month’s Marquette University Law School poll, 71% of Wisconsinites are in favor of laws requiring transgender athletes to compete on teams matching their biological sex as assigned at birth.
