Madison – State Senator Dan Knodl (R-Germantown) voted in favor of Senate Bill 70 (state budget), which builds on $30 billion of tax cuts in the last decade. He issued the following statement:
“When the government has a surplus, it is the government’s duty to return that money to the taxpayers. This budget cuts a total of $4.4 billion in taxes, the largest tax cut in state history. This continues a longer trend of Republican tax cuts over the past decade that equals up to $30 billion.
“This budget is also the last step in repealing the personal property tax. Increased aid from the state will provide local governments with a stable new revenue stream to help fund their core services.
“Overall, this is a good budget that responsibly funds Wisconsin’s priorities. This budget was put together in the best interest of the entire state and does not give anybody special treatment, which I believe is crucial when crafting a state budget. Other important priorities that have been addressed in this budget include road improvements, child care, school safety, housing, and upgrading outdated technology. It accomplishes all this while also reducing the debt. ”
Senate Bill 70 passed on a vote of 20-13 in the State Senate. The bill will be voted on in the State Assembly today.
