Madison– Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu issued the following statement regarding  yesterday’s board of regents vote. The regents vote yesterday approved the proposal they  rejected on Saturday.

Diversity, equity and inclusion programs have been co-opted by radical liberals to enforce  their agenda on universities and student bodies all over the country. With this agreement,  Wisconsin will become a leader in bipartisan reform to higher education.

“Repurposing DEI resources systemwide, providing UW employees with inflationary pay  increases and enumerating a new engineering building at UW-Madison will benefit UW  students and the state as a whole. I’m glad that the regents reconsidered their ill-advised vote  and approved the legislature’s plan to provide the university system with nearly a billion  dollars in new investment.”

As part of the deal, the UW-System will repurpose dozens of diversity, equity and inclusion  positions to instead focus on student achievement.
