Madison, WI – Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) made a statement following the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents’ vote to accept the resolution negotiated between the Universities of Wisconsin System and the State Legislature:
“I am very glad that the Board of Regents had a change of heart. The local faculty and staff at our universities, like UW Platteville, deserve the raise that is included in this deal. I have been fighting for this part for months and I am glad that we are nearly there.”
“I am also very glad that the Regents recognized the value of this deal in exchange for modest adjustments to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs in exchange for massive investments in the UW engineering building, Winther and Heide Halls and several other renovation, demolition and utility projects.”
“Our universities must be places where students are taught how to think – not what to think. Adjusting the DEI programming will go a long way toward respecting all speech and all thought on our campuses, making it a safe, fair place for all students to express themselves and learn.”
