MADISON — Today, the United States Supreme Court announced it would hear the challenge to abortion pill access (mifepristone). In response, Sen. Kelda Roys (D-Madison), an abortion rights expert, issued the following statement:
“Abortion access is in jeopardy nationwide, both from Republican politicians who want to pass a federal abortion ban, and again from the US Supreme Court, which has agreed to hear a case challenging the FDA’s authority to regulate medication – in this case, mifepristone, a medication used frequently for abortion.
“Our rights are not safe, so long as the right-wing zealots on the Supreme Court continue to abuse their positions to impose their narrow worldview on the rest of us. Right now, medication abortion is legal and available by mail in all 50 states from AidAccess.org; anyone can order a prescription in advance to have it in case it’s ever needed in the future.”
