MADISON – Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) issued the following statement regarding Speaker Robin Vos’ (R-Burlington) bizarre and abrupt behavior to cling to power:
“We are watching a frantic lawmaker try every desperation tactic he can to ignore the public will and cling to power. It’s really sad to watch this unfold in the public eye, but after over a decade of ignorance it’s well overdue.
“Impeaching a justice who hasn’t even ruled on anything one day, then trying to rig the redistricting process the next day and then a day later talking about convening a makeshift impeachment panel is making everyone’s heads spin. Maybe it’s time for the Speaker to stop digging now that he’s found himself in a hole.
“No one knows what the Speaker will come up with tomorrow, but this daily and very public display of erratic behavior is unbecoming of an elected leader. His 2020 investigation was a self-described embarrassment and his current investigation ideas are only getting worse. He should investigate why he continues to be here if his only legacy will be wasting millions of dollars on spurious investigations resulting in continual humiliations.”
