MADISON, Wis. – Following the appointment by Governor Tony Evers of James Bond as the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), members of the Wisconsin Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus released the following statement:

“James Bond joined the DVA in 2010, and was appointed Deputy Secretary in 2019. He is a disabled veteran and served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1983-1988. We appreciate Secretary-designee Bond’s work to support veterans in Wisconsin, and his continued service to our state.

“We applaud Governor Evers’s appointment of James Bond as the next DVA Secretary. As members of the Wisconsin Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, we are very pleased that James Bond will serve as the first openly LGBTQ+ cabinet member in Wisconsin history. This is a monumental and historic step forward in increasing LGBTQ+ representation and acceptance. We look forward to working with Secretary-designee Bond in the future.”
