Madison, WI – State Sen. Duey Stroebel (R – Cedarburg) issued the following statement in response to passage of Senate Bill 330, a bill he authored to establish better parity in the per pupil funding amounts for K-12 public, independent charter and choice schools in Wisconsin:
“After several hours of floor debate, Senate Bill 330 passed both chambers of the legislature with bipartisan support. This historic investment makes sure every child is provided a quality education and has the chance to succeed no matter their zip code.”
“In addition to the over $1 billion funding increase to public K-12 schools included in the upcoming budget, SB 330 secures $280 million in new funding for choice and charter schools. SB 330 also increases the low revenue limit to $11,000 per student for low spending public schools.”
“SB 330 closes the funding gap for private schools participating in the parental choice programs and gives parents more opportunities to decide which school best fits their child’s needs. Wisconsin is making great strides towards establishing funding parity for all K-12 students with the passage of this piece of legislation.”
Additionally, Assembly Bill 245 passed both chambers with bipartisan support providing increased shared revenue for local governments while eliminating the personal property tax:
“Towns and municipalities across the state will see nearly 20% increases in state aid to address their needs like providing essential police, fire and EMS. AB 245 transforms the way Wisconsin funds local governments while also incentivizing fiscal prudence.”
“After authoring legislation across multiple legislative sessions to fully repeal the personal property tax (PPT), it’s great to see we are one step closer to making this long overdue reform a reality with its inclusion in AB 245. Small businesses and local governments will no longer be burdened with the outsized compliance costs and inefficient administrative processes associated with this complicated and economically dampening tax.”
“With any compromise, there are concessions for all parties involved at the negotiation table. The legislature is continuing to follow through on its end of the bargain, and Assembly Bill 245 and Senate Bill 330 will now go to Governor Evers’ desk for approval. Overall, this is a big day for parents, children and communities across Wisconsin.”
Senator Stroebel represents the 20th Senate District which includes parts of Ozaukee, Washington, Fond du Lac, Calumet and Sheboygan Counties.
