MADISON — Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Green Bay) released the following statement after the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) hearing on February 7th:

“The Department of Administration failed to provide the Audit Bureau with even the most basic documents and information used to make federal funding decisions. The public has a right to know how priorities for this funding were determined and why.”

Last year, the JLAC directed an audit to determine how the Department of Administration directed the use of supplemental federal funds provided to the state in response to the public health emergency. The committee requested information relating to initial funding requests, agendas, meeting minutes and planning worksheets that guided the department on how to invest these funds. DOA could not provide any relevant materials on how they decided which programs to fund.

Additionally, the JLAC held a public hearing and executive session on two proposed audits relating to professional licensing and telework, space management and risk management.

“Our state’s professionals are stuck in limbo while waiting for the Department of Safety and Professional Services to approve their licenses. Families, businesses and our state’s industries deserve answers on how this process can be improved. Government should not be a barrier to gainful employment.”
