Senate passes carjacking legislation

The Senate voted 23-8 to reclassify Wisconsin’s existing statutes on taking a car without the owner’s consent into one category for carjacking. 
The bill also would increase the felony classification for taking others’ cars by force and threatening the owner with a weapon to a Class B felony from a Class C felony. The change would raise the maximum prison penalty to 60 years from 40 years.
