FEBRUARY 6, 2023 – Swing Left—the national organization that is one of the largest drivers of grassroots volunteers and donors to support Democrats in competitive elections—announced today that it will be mobilizing its national membership to help flip the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. The election on April 4th will have national implications on the 2024 presidential elections, as well as on the status of abortion access, voting rights, fair maps, and more in Wisconsin. Swing Left’s focus will be on increasing awareness, volunteer capacity, and grassroots donations to support the election of a progressive-leaning candidate to flip control of the court.

“This election is about protecting our human rights and democracy from the real and present threat of MAGA radicals. Democrats had some major wins in Wisconsin last year, but the current conservative court is aiding and abetting the GOP extremists controlling Wisconsin’s state legislature,” said Yasmin Radjy, Swing Left’s Executive Director. “Winning this seat means reversing some of the most egregiously gerrymandered maps in the country and ensuring free and fair presidential elections in 2024. It will also determine the fate of millions of people’s access to reproductive health care—a progressive court can finally overturn Wisconsin’s draconian near-total abortion ban from the 1800’s. We saw in 2022 how abortion access motivated volunteers and voters alike. We’re ready to bring that same energy to Wisconsin this year.”

Radjy continued, “Wisconsin’s 2019 Supreme Court election was decided by less than 6,000 votes. The GOP—with the support of the conservative court—has been doing everything they can to suppress the vote in Wisconsin.  But we’re ready to fight even harder to increase voter turnout so that Wisconsinites elect a justice who strengthens our democracy and advances their values.”

From now through Election Day on April 4, Swing Left volunteers will be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and writing letters to voters to make sure they understand the stakes of this race and know who the candidates are. On top of that, this is expected to be the most expensive campaign for a judicial seat in U.S. history,  which is why Swing Left is  going all-in on grassroots fundraising to make sure the resources are in place to maximize voter contact efforts on the ground.

Swing Left will drive volunteers and donors to help flip the Wisconsin State Supreme Court by:

  • Fundraising for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, which will provide critical support to the progressive general election candidate, including delivering funds directly to the candidate’s campaign, overseeing a statewide field organizing operation, and working collaboratively with partners on press, mail, and digital communications.
  • Mobilizing volunteers who live in and near Wisconsin to participate in ongoing canvassing events
  • Hosting virtual phone banking events for out-of-state volunteers to inform potential voters of candidates’ positions and past rulings, election dates, how to find their polling places, and general information on how to vote.
  • Writing letters to voters via Swing Left’s affiliate organization Vote Forward, which is launching a letter writing campaign after the February 21st primary.
