The Long Run PAC will Invest in Working Class Candidates, Young Candidates, Candidates of Color, and LGBTQ+ Candidates in Wisconsin and Nationwide

Mandela’s Historic U.S. Senate Campaign Broke Wisconsin Fundraising Records and Came One Point From Unseating a Two-Term Incumbent

MILWAUKEE — Today, Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin’s 45th Lt. Governor and 2022 U.S. Senate nominee, launched The Long Run PAC, which will support diverse and ground-breaking candidates around the country.

Despite being massively outspent and written off by nearly every pundit, Mandela came within 26,000 votes of defeating entrenched incumbent Republican Senator Ron Johnson. Mandela’s candidacy inspired young voters, voters of color, and women in the suburbs to exercise their political power and helped move democracy forward in Wisconsin. Now, he is launching The Long Run PAC to ensure the next generation of groundbreaking candidates has the resources and support they need to cross the finish line.

Mandela Barnes made the following statement:

“All over America, changemaking candidates are stepping up in ways we’ve never seen before. Working class candidates, young candidates, candidates of color, and LGTBQ+ candidates are shattering ceilings, breaking new ground, and redefining what a winning candidate looks like and where they come from. Every single one of them is being asked the same question: ‘Can you win?’

“The Long Run PAC is my way of making sure the answer to that question is a resounding, ‘yes.’ Because winning a race isn’t just about what you put in on race day, it’s about the support, training, and resources you put in from day one. Together, we’re going to make sure these candidates have that support throughout their long run, ensuring their final sprint is a sprint to win.”

About The Long Run PAC

The Long Run was founded by Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin’s first Black Lt. Governor and 2022 candidate for the United States Senate. Despite being massively outspent and written off by nearly every pundit, Mandela came within 26,000 votes of defeating entrenched incumbent Republican Senator Ron Johnson.

He started The Long Run to support diverse and groundbreaking pro-democracy candidates around the country who are helping to flip critical swing districts and bring more working-class voices to the table. This includes young candidates, candidates of color, LGBTQ+ candidates, and candidates from working class backgrounds who are breaking the mold of what leadership looks like.

Like Mandela, these candidates will face the same questions again and again: “Can you win?” The Long Run will help to make sure these candidates have the resources and support they need to answer “Yes!”
