WASHINGTON, DC – Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the statement below on reports that the Chinese Communist Party and Cuba have reached an agreement to establish a CCP spy facility in Cuba.

“The Wall Street Journal’s report of a planned CCP spy facility in Cuba reminds us we are in a New Cold War that, once again, has come to our doorstep. Our ardent diplomatic pursuit of the CCP in the aftermath of the spy balloon has only emboldened CCP aggression. We must make it clear that, as President Kennedy said over sixty years ago on the eve of a previous crisis in Cuba, “one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or submission.

“It is time to take long-overdue actions such as ending Huawei export licenses, restricting outbound investment in crucial sectors in the PRC, closing the de minimis loophole, enhancing research security, and preventing CCP land purchases near military bases.”
