WASHINGTON, D.C.– Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after the House passed the Pandemic is Over Act, which would formally end the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The Biden administration has relied on the COVID-19 emergency to forgive student debt, spend massive sums of taxpayer dollars, and expand the size of the federal government. This is a gross abuse of executive power that must come to an end today – not on May 11. This week we are voting to end this emergency and make the federal government recognize what every American knows: the pandemic is over and it’s time to get back to work.”

While the Biden administration announced yesterday it would make a similar move on May 11, 2023, this legislation puts an immediate end to the emergency and the emergency powers that come with it.

Later this week, Rep. Gallagher will also vote to require employees at federal agencies to return to work in person like all Americans, and will also support legislation ending the national emergency declaration that was issued in relation to the pandemic.
