WASHINGTON, D.C.– Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after the House voted to prevent the Biden Administration from selling petroleum from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China or Chinese companies.

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is meant to help Americans during times of war, severe weather, or other national emergencies. The fact that President Biden has not only depleted our reserves to critically low levels, but has also sold reserve petroleum to Chinese entities is insane. Today the House voted in overwhelming bipartisan fashion to ensure that we never sell our critical reserve petroleum to our nation’s foremost adversary again.”

In a politically-motivated move to lower inflated gas prices, the Biden Administration announced the sale of petroleum from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in April of 2022. One of the companies awarded a contract was Unipec, a U.S. subsidiary of China’s state-owned oil company, Sinopec.
