“It has been two years since the deadly, attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Americans will never forget the day that an angry mob attacked police officers and terrorized members of Congress to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Five police officers lost their lives, and more than 140 were injured. I am forever thankful to the brave officers who protected democracy.

Our democracy remains vulnerable because, with increased zeal, Republicans continue to attack it and our institutions so they can push their radical and unpopular agenda, subverting the will of the American people.

Let this day remind us all that the work of democracy is ongoing. It requires both citizens and elected officials to be committed to the ideals of free and fair elections, equal access to the ballot box, and preserving individual liberties. Democrats will continue championing the freedoms that strengthen our democracy and country.”
