SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WI – Today, Congressman Bryan Steil hosted a free scam prevention event in South Milwaukee. During the event, officials from the Federal Trade Commission, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, AARP, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and IRS Criminal Investigation shared information regarding new scams targeting Wisconsinites’ information and resources to prevent and report scams.

“Scammers are always looking for new ways to obtain our information. Until we are successful at ending these scams, I want to be a resource for you to prevent being scammed and protect your information,” said Steil. “Today’s event was an important reminder for us all to be on the lookout for scams and to know where we can report these fraudulent attacks. Thank you to everyone who attended our event.”

Background:

Steil has hosted three previous scam prevention events for residents of Wisconsin’s First District. In 2019, Steil hosted a free Scam Prevention Event in Kenosha County. In 2020, Steil hosted a telephone town hall focused on resources to prevent Coronavirus scams and identity theft. In April 2022, Steil hosted a free Scam Prevention Event in Rock County focused on resources available to prevent scams and identity theft.
