Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), along with Members of the Wisconsin Delegation, sent a letter to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Agriculture urging the administration to provide solutions to the U.S-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) dispute settlement panel ruling on November 24, 2023 that permits Canada to continue limiting American dairy market access.
In the letter, the Members requested the administration to share its plan for overturning the harmful conditions set by the USMCA dispute settlement panel ruling and their strategy for addressing barriers to dairy trade and market access opportunities.
“Our dairy farmers and processors work tirelessly to produce quality products,” said Rep. Van Orden. “Wisconsin a leading dairy state, and the ruling in favor of Canada’s dairy market restrictions is an insult to the farmers, producers, and marketers who work to ensure nutritious products are available at prices people can afford. I will always stand up for our dairy industry workers, and I look forward to continuing to work with my Wisconsin Delegation colleagues and the administration to ensure the United States has an equal seat at the table as our USMCA counterparts.”
