MADISON – Late yesterday the Wisconsin Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance addressed the budget for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and voted to include funding for an Agricultural Road Improvement Program (ARIP). This program would provide grants for local governments to repair and rebuild crumbling roads and bridges that create problems for farmers.
The following quote can be attributed to Wisconsin Farm Bureau President Kevin Krentz:
“We greatly appreciate the action by the Joint Committee on Finance to fully fund a $150 million program to modernize infrastructure in rural Wisconsin. The number one challenge many farmers face in getting their products to market is the road at the end of their driveway. This program will direct grant funds to the roads that support our food supply chain and our $104.8 billion agricultural economy.”
The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general farm organization, representing farms of every size, commodity and management style.
