Madison, WI – Today, Wisconsin Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) highlighted Dan Knodl’s (R-Germantown) extreme voting history on abortion rights and health care in Wisconsin.
“Make no mistake, Dan Knodl’s extreme voting record on abortion and reproductive health care long predates the Dobbs decision. Since he was elected to the Assembly in 2008, Representative Knodl has supported legislation that is far out of step with the people of Wisconsin and the 8th Senate District,” Senator Agard stated.
Some examples of Knodl’s extreme voting record:
- Supported a bill in 2013 that required mandatory transvaginal ultrasounds for women seeking abortion care, even in cases where the health of the mother was in danger.
- Supported an unconstitutional provision in that same bill that required doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital, which would have significantly limited options for women who needed reproductive health care.
- Co-authored one of the most extreme pieces of abortion legislation in the country in 2022 which would have acted as a near-total abortion ban based on medically inaccurate junk science.
- Voted to repeal the “Healthy Youth Act” which required medically accurate, age appropriate information be given to students when studying human growth and development.
“Dan Knodl is simply a rubber stamp for the anti-science, anti-abortion agenda of the extreme MAGA Republicans. The 8th Senate District deserves someone who will stand up for their health care, not insert themselves into private medical decisions.”
“The voters of the 8th Senate District need to elect Jodi Habush Sinykin on April 4th to protect and preserve these basic rights and freedoms.”
Jodi Habush Sinykin is running against Rep. Dan Knodl for the open Wisconsin State Senate District 8 seat. Jodi has always believed that healthcare decisions like terminating a pregnancy should be left between a woman and her doctor, not elected politicians in the state capitol. Her election to the State Senate would ensure that Democrats hold off a GOP supermajority in the upper chamber of the legislature.
