MADISON, Wis. — Today, new reporting from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed how Jennifer Dorow allowed a defendant convicted of a fifth-offense OWI off with no jail time contrary to state law. In a Wisconsin Court of Appeals ruling released earlier this month, Dorow’s sentence in the case was ruled “unlawful”, finding that Dorow had imposed a lighter sentence of probation despite state law requiring jail time of a year or more.

“It’s disturbing that Jennifer Dorow appears to have botched yet another sentencing decision,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “Fortunately, the Court of Appeals was able to step in and ensure justice was done in this case, and that a dangerous individual with five OWI offenses was not let off with a slap on the wrist. As this decision notes, it’s not just that Dorow let someone off easy—she appears to have completely misinterpreted state statute and imposed a light sentence contrary to what the law demanded. It’s clear from Dorow’s record that she is not prepared to tackle the tough decisions that would come her way on the Supreme Court.”
