MADISON, Wis. — On the first anniversary of President Biden signing Senator Tammy Baldwin’s Respect for Marriage Act, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:
“One year ago today, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, codifying the right of all Americans to marry the person they choose, regardless of race or gender. We are grateful today for President Biden’s decades-long commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ rights, and to Senator Baldwin, who led the charge to get this essential legislation across the finish line.
“This historic achievement was only made possible by the generations of fearless activists who fought for their right to equal respect and dignity—both in our culture and our laws. The fight is far from over, but Wisconsinites can trust that President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Senator Baldwin will continue working to advance racial equity and LGBTQ+ equality across the country.”
