MADISON, Wis. – It was only a matter of time.
Today, Tammy Baldwin called for a ceasefire in Gaza, aligning herself with the demands of Hamas and the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
This comes despite Hamas pledging to continue attacks on Israel as well as their history of violating five previous ceasefires.
It is disgraceful that Baldwin would take the terrorist organization responsible for the October 7th attacks at their word. Yet, it is also completely unsurprising when one considers the Senator’s record of praising Hamas front groups like CAIR and turning a blind eye to Iran.
Only five years after a 2013 Department of Justice executive summary directly linked CAIR leadership with Hamas, Senator Baldwin published a letter to CAIR praising the organization and offering to “be of assistance to your important mission, please do not hesitate to reach out.”
During her tenure in the United States House of Representatives, Baldwin stood in the way of efforts to contain Iran, Hamas’ biggest financier and cheerleader. Baldwin opposed both the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act and the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act. She also voted against an appropriations bill that would have enhanced sanction tactics on Iran.
At every stage of her time in office, Baldwin has undercut efforts to contain Hamas and its affiliates. Most egregious of all, she has ignored the obvious reality of the ongoing war in Gaza: the only reason why Hamas wants a ceasefire now is to rebuild and rearm itself to carry out further massacres of Israeli civilians.
