MADISON – WPT today released the following statement on Governor Evers’ use of his line item veto authority to provide annual $325 per pupil revenue limit increases.
“We are very disappointed that Governor Evers used his line item veto authority to allow for automatic massive property tax increases across the state,” John Jacobson, WPT’s Government & Member Relations Director said. “In his veto message, Evers said the increases ‘have the potential to take the burden off community members…as it reduces the need for districts to seek operating referenda.’”
“That statement would be fine if it wasn’t for the glaring fact that property taxpayers pick up the bill either way. If the choice was between automatic property tax increases or property taxpayers democratically choosing to offer more funding where it’s needed, we choose local control every time.”
