U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, is up with a new ad hitting GOP rival Eric Hovde on $26 million his California bank received from a bank in Mexico.
Baldwin has $982,331 in ad reservations for the coming week between broadcast, cable and radio. From today through the Nov. 5 election, Baldwin and those supporting her have $23.3 million reserved on the air, according to AdImpact. Hovde and those backing him have $3.4 million in reservations.
Wisconsin media have reported on the transaction over the past week. Hovde has stressed there is no evidence that he or his bank had been accused of any wrongdoing or that the money it received was linked to drug cartels.
The narrator opens the spot saying fentanyl is killing more than 1,000 people a year in Wisconsin and new reporting shows Hovde “is doing business with a bank accused of links to the Mexican drug cartel.” The narrator adds Banco Azteca flew $26 million to Hovde’s California bank.
“Other U.S. banks have cut ties with this Mexican bank, but Eric Hovde took their money,” the narrator says to close the spot. “That’s 26 million more reasons you can’t trust Eric Hovde.”
