U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says his agency is closely watching the airline industry this holiday weekend, which is expected to produce record travel on the roads and in the air.

“Last year, the cancellation rate was at a 10-year low,” Buttigieg told “UpFront,” which is produced in partnership with WisPolitics. “This year so far, it’s actually even better than last year, but we want to make sure it stays that way. We’re pressing the airlines to do their part.”

Several airlines are currently suing the Biden administration over its new rule forcing them to disclose certain fees.

“We’re not going to back down on these passenger protections,” Buttigieg said. “The idea that giving customers upfront information about their fees you’ve got to pay is somehow confusing, I think really disrespects passengers and consumers.”
