Madison, WI — Peace activists with CODEPINK-Madison, SJP University of Wisconsin-Madison and unaffiliated Madisonians used Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign event in Madison as an opportunity to call attention to her role in supporting the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Holding banners with messages such as “NOT ANOTHER BOMB,” “IF YOU’RE THE LESSER EVIL, WHY BOMB GAZA WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS,” and “LOOK UP NAKBA,” the activists interrupted Harris’ speech with a direct and urgent message: Stop supporting a genocide.

The ten Wisconsin residents were subsequently kicked out of the event.

“We are here to demonstrate to Harris that it’s not enough to just say she’s the lesser evil,” said local resident and activist Shahayra Majumder. “As if it’s not bad enough that she’s complicit in killing my brothers and sisters in Gaza, she is on the campaign trail instead of spending every waking moment on negotiating a ceasefire that would save US taxpayers billions. We will continue to apply pressure on VP Harris until there is a ceasefire and a halt to U.S. arms sales to Israel.”

Despite polls indicating that the majority of Americans support a permanent ceasefire and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, Vice President Harris has remained firm in her commitment to “standing by Israel.” Activists emphasize this stance contradicts the desires of the American public and further fuels the violence in the region.

The activists emphasized that their protest was a call for accountability and an urgent demand for the U.S. government to reconsider its foreign policy in the Middle East.
