EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Today, Cooke for Congress announced the endorsement of the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare.
“Rebecca Cooke is the only candidate in this race that seniors can trust with their Social Security and Medicare,” said Max Richtman, Chairman of National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare-PAC. “Rebecca understands Wisconsin values, and knows that working people earned their Social Security and Medicare benefits through a lifetime of hard work. In Congress, she will fight to protect and enhance these programs. Her opponent couldn’t be more different. He has voted for devastating cuts to programs that seniors’ rely on. Wisconsin voters should know: a vote for Rebecca Cooke is a vote to extend solvency and improve benefits for Social Security and Medicare by making the wealthy pay their fair share.”
“I know firsthand how critical it is to safeguard Social Security and Medicare for Wisconsin families. When my mom had a heart attack and was flooded with hospital bills, it was thanks to Medicare that we could afford them and get by,” Cooke said. “Our parents, grandparents, and loved ones deserve to age with dignity, and I will make that a top priority in Congress.”
Derrick Van Orden has consistentlysupported legislation jeopardizing Social Security and Medicare, including voting to shutter or cut hours for 240 Social Security field offices and making it harder for seniors to access services.
Cooke has been endorsed by over a dozen labor unions, leaders, and organizations, including the Blue Dog PAC, New Democrats Coalition, EMILYs List, Communications Workers of America (CWA), American Postal Workers Union (APWU), Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), members of Congress Rep. Sharice Davids (D-KS), Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10), and Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-CA), among others.
