Milwaukee County District Attorney-Elect Kent Lovern has announced his leadership team
effective upon his taking office on January 6, 2025.
Jeff Altenburg will become Chief Deputy District Attorney, assuming the responsibility for
overseeing the day-to-day administration of the District Attorney’s Office. Altenburg has served as
a Milwaukee County prosecutor since 1997, and as a Deputy District Attorney since 2008, most
recently supervising the General Crimes Unit, Community Partnership Unit, and Early Intervention
Unit. Among his additional administrative responsibilities, Altenburg will continue to oversee the
Early Intervention Unit.
Sara Sadowski will become Deputy District Attorney overseeing Administration and Finance within
the office. An Assistant District Attorney since 2011, Sara has served with distinction in the
General Crimes, Sensitive Crimes, and Homicide Units, also serving as a captain of the Domestic
Violence Unit. Prior to joining the District Attorney’s Office, Sara worked for ten years in the
private sector as a business manager, consultant, and administrative office coordinator.
Ann Lopez will become Deputy District Attorney overseeing the General Crimes Unit and
Community Partnership Unit, which are comprised of thirty-six prosecutors. An Assistant District
Attorney since 2009, Lopez most recently served as the captain of the Community Partnership Unit
and as a Community Prosecutor in the neighborhoods of the south side of Milwaukee. She has held
previous assignments in the General Crimes Unit and Termination of Parental Rights Unit.
“The promotions of Jeff Altenburg, Sara Sadowski, and Ann Lopez are well-deserved,” Lovern
said. “Jeff has helped lead this office for over sixteen years and developed model community
partnership and early intervention initiatives that have helped reduce crime and recidivism. Sara
has been an outstanding prosecutor, handling many different types of cases, and brings ten years of
business and administrative experience that is critical to her new role. Ann has been a rising star in
this office in every assignment she has held, most notably in service to the residents of the south
side of Milwaukee. I am grateful for Jeff’s willingness to assume the oversight of the daily
operations of this office, and I welcome Sara and Ann to our leadership team. Jeff, Sara, and Ann
are outstanding leaders who serve the residents of Milwaukee County at the highest level.”
