Looking to give turkey hunting a try this year, but don’t know where to start? We have you covered!

The DNR’s Turkey Hunting webpage has a wealth of information to help get you started.

Another great option is to participate in a Learn to Hunt Turkey program. These programs are designed for new hunters. Topics covered include turkey hunting regulations, equipment and safety.

Multiple programs are offered across the state and throughout the year. See what’s available near you by visiting the Learn to Hunt webpage.

For more information on Learn to Hunt programs, contact DNR Hunting and Shooting Sports Specialist Emily Iehl at Emily.Iehl@wisconsin.gov or 608-445-8168.

Public Hunting On Private Land

Are you still searching for that perfect spot to chase turkey this spring? You’re in luck! Wisconsin offers millions of acres of public land, with much of it open to turkey hunting.

Turkey hunters in Wisconsin also have access to thousands of acres of private land through the Turkey Hunter Access Program and the Voluntary Public Access Programs, respectively.

The properties enrolled in these programs are privately owned but open for public hunting. Access is free, and there no need to contact landowners for permission.

Learn more about these spaces on the DNR’s Public Access Lands webpage.

The success and future of these programs depends on the generosity of private landowners and respectful use by hunters. Remember to only explore these places on foot and always be sure to respect the landowner’s property.
